Strangely Familiar

I have officially been in the country for 24 hours. Most of which have been spent in a sleep deprived fog, or sleeping. After 29 hours without sleep, I slept for 15. My German class doesn't start until Monday, so I have 2 completely free days to go explore the city of Freiburg.

The flight over was uneventful. I had dinner over New York with the company of Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers (and yes, I remembered all the words to the theme song). We arrived on time in Frankfurt. It has been 12 years since my family left Germany and felt eager to make some new first impressions of the country. I was surprised to find that there wasn't a line at customs, so the anticipation didn't even have to build. My first impression of Germany was a huge Harry Potter sign at the bookstore and a fog of smoke in the waiting area. I found my bags, bought a train ticket, and was on my way for the second leg of the journey. As the train departed Frankfurt and I watched the countryside role by, I found it strangely familiar. As we passed through towns and by neighborhoods, I felt as if I could have been passing by our old neighborhood in Bad Aibling. Even the sounds of German conversation around me didn't strike me as odd. I found it more odd, that I didn't find it odd. Once arriving in Freiburg I had 2 hours before I could check into the hostel where I will be staying, so I wandered around for a bit. Here are a few things that I was excited to see again:

Bells, Baskets, and Baby Seats on Bikes.

Backery's

Pedestrian Zones

Kinder eggs

On my way to Germany!

Mmmmmmmm
